Stretching and Mediation

Fridays   | 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm  |  In-person at Amazing Brentwood Mall (4567 Lougheed Hwy)

We are excited to announce this new class exploring holistic stretching and meditation techniques that combines motion and inaction to cultivate both the interior and exterior of the body. Much like Qi Gong, in this practice you will learn a set of exercises known for rejuvenating and energizing.

With minimal instruction, participants can easily follow along and gradually understand the movements.

Mahjong Club

Come share in our love of Mahjong! This community-led group will meet every other week at 11 am North Burnaby Neighbourhood House (4908 Hastings St.) to play an Asian (Hong Kong style) version of the game.

Mahjong is a challenging game that involves skill and (sometimes!) luck. Quick thinking and mental complexity are always present in the game. It keeps the mind sharp and in good health.

New players of all levels of experience are welcome — whether you’re a pro, need to sharpen your skills, or are just learning to play, there’s a table waiting for you! If you have never played before members will be happy to share their love of the game and teach others to play.

We are fortunate to have a presentation from Veronica de Jong from the PCN. She will be talking about navigating the Healthcare System and how to get on the list for a family doctor.  This is a wonderful opportunity to get answers to healthcare-related questions.

Community Cafe

Drop in to chat and relax, or take part in the activities and games going on that day. Bring your favourite game to share with others or learn something new. The Mahjong Club is now part of this group and will meet at this time.

This is open to anyone who wants to connect over a tea or coffee with others in the community, and if you want to play table games, so much the better! 

Dementia Friends Cafe

South Burnaby Neighbourhood House is hosting a dementia-friendly cafe, starting in September. 
Every month there will be different topics from brain health, creating a safe home, getting ready for the holidays as well as a visit from the UBC IDEA LAB.

Choose to Move – Caregiver Edition

In this new group you will receive support from an activity coach as well as peer support as you develop a personal action plan to help you meet your movement goals.

Keeping active and looking after ourselves is crucial to not only our own health but our ability to care for others.

Beginners Line Dancing

Mondays  |  9:30 am – 10:15 am    |   In-person at Amazing Brentwood (4567 Lougheed Hwy)

Are you familiar with line dancing? Line dancing is a Western and Country style of dance where people stand in rows and perform choreographed movements together, sometimes in partners. The music and dancing will give you the energy you need to power through your day! 

This program is starting in September and will run on Monday mornings from 9:30am to 10:15am at the Amazing Brentwood Mall. Please note that we are looking for committed learners, because this is not a drop-in class. Please see the flyer for more details.

Crochet Workshop

Are you a crafty person? Or maybe you’d like to try something new that is fun and rewarding!

Cooling Event

Bollywood Dancing

English Conversation Class

Qi Gong – Saturday Class

Qi Gong is a personal practice that led to fitness, flexibility, and internal peace that combines the physical benefits of exercise with the spiritual qualities of meditation, leading to full nourishment of both mind and body.

There are many different types of Qi Gong practices, but most of them involve slow-moving exercises that reflect the qualities of nature.

Spanish Speaking Skills

Hola! Are you looking to work on your Spanish speaking skills? Join us at our South location, at 4460 Beresford St in Burnaby for an hour and a half of working on your Spanish conversation skills with other members of your community. This program is running for 4 sessions on Thursdays, from 10:30am – 12:00pm. 

A Burnaby Membership is required for this program, as well as a $5 program fee. See the poster for details.

Seniors Walking Group

Every other Tuesday  |  12:00 pm – 1:00 pm 

Ready to get walking with the community? Join our Senior Walking Group! This group meets every other Tuesday afternoon for a one-hour walk around South Burnaby. What a great way to explore the area and meet your neighbours! 

This program is held every other Tuesday from 12pm to 1pm, perfect for after lunch! It will run until the end of October.

Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors

Burnaby Neighbourhood House is launching a new, low-cost, social activity day program for Burnaby seniors, called TAPS. The program is funded by the Government of BC and managed by the United Way of the Lower Mainland. See poster for details.

  • Opportunity to meet new friends in a supportive environment.
  • Physical activity programs like light, safe exercises designed for seniors, stretching, outdoor walks.
  • Health and wellness programs like sensory sessions, music & art, brain games.

  • Lunch is available.

Who Can Come?

  • 55+ seniors in Burnaby
  • Able to independently take part in activities

English Conversation

Digital Literacy Program

Would you like learn to use email, create files and documents, use excel, search the Internet or practice typing and writing skills on a computer? Volunteer Computer Instructors are available to help community residents with their computer learning needs. We offer support in multiple languages.

Qi Gong

Are you looking for legal advice? Seniors First BC are here to help. Come for a free 30-minute consultation on the 4th Tuesday of every month at their Brentwood clinic (2055 Rosser Ave).
Among other things, they will be able to help you understand what legal proceedings are, what to expect in courts and get help in drafting wills or power of attorney.
