BNH Food Programs
Did you know BNH currently has 4 types of Food Programs for Burnaby residents?
In March 2020, BNH partnered with the Food Bank and United Way to establish two food hubs at each of the Neighbourhood Houses. Since then, BNH has provided food security to approximately 1,300 unique individuals each month.
Community Kitchens addresses the need of food security by helping families on limited incomes to stretch their food budgets by coming together to cook, share nutritious recipes and take portions home for their families. During the health crisis, this program has been offered virtually utilizing Zoom. The Community Kitchens Coordinator offers cooking sessions that included the ingredients that were given out weekly via the BNH Food Hubs.
BNH provides nutritious, frozen, prepared meals for vulnerable seniors who need extra support. Our Kitchen Coordinator staff, Hilda, and her trusted volunteer, Khush, make an average of 120 meals each week!
BNH’s Community Garden is supported by green-thumb volunteers who have the willingness to share their gardening skills or learn more gardening. The Community is most active in the warmer months, when all the vegetables harvested are transported to our Food Hubs and Prepared Meals.
