Student Training

On the Job training experience for students. A variety of opportunities are available for students who want to gain work experience. This includes placements for student who are attending college and university, as well as general volunteer opportunities. During the summer, we provide employment for approximately 15 to 20 secondary and post-secondary students in our Day Camp program. We are committed to providing opportunities for youth and adults to expand their skills and work experiences.

Youth Leadership

We offer 3 levels of Leadership at the BNH, each with a different community focus. All programs have components of problem solving, social interaction, communication, group work as well as individual initiative. You do not need to complete a previous program to enter the next one. Registration is required.

Foundations of Leadership: Youth in grades 8-9. From September-June plus a summer session in July/August.

The focus is on gaining a stronger sense of appreciation and belonging for the community. This is done through various volunteering opportunities, learning sessions and some out-trips. Youth are offered a strong base of theoretical and practical leadership skills.

Leadership 1: Youth in grades 10-11. There will be three different sessions; one in the Fall, Winter & Spring.

Youth are trained to work with school-aged children and then actually placed in our licensed childcare facilities to gain valuable volunteer work experience meanwhile earning graduation hours as a mini-practicum. Youth will learn to plan & facilitate activities and lead the group.

Leadership 2: Youth in grades 11-12. From October-May with a project re-start in January.

This is a more advanced, self-driven program where the youth are encouraged and mentored to follow their passions and to actually plan, organize and carry out events and fundraisers to support those causes, both on a local and international level. Youth learn to become change agents and are also given some post-secondary and job readiness skills training.
