Family Fun in the Park

Wednesdays  |  10:00 am – 11:30 am  |  In-person at Confederation Park (250 Willingdon Ave)

Summer is here families! We’re having free Family Drop-ins (for children 0-5 years old) at our local parks starting July 5. Bring your mat, dress for the weather, stay hydrated and get ready for a fun time of playing games, singing songs, and meeting new friends!

Confederation Park dates: July 24, and Aug 7. ***Update – no session July 31 or Aug 14***

McKay Park dates: July 5, 12, 19 and 26.

Neighbourhood House Day

Wednesday, May 15  |  11:00 am – 7:00 pm    |   In-person at Heritage Hall

As part of Neighbourhood House Week, join us in person at Heritage Hall (3102 Main St, Vancouver) on May 15 from 11am-7pm for the full day or drop in to enjoy specific activities and performances that fit your schedule. Some of the event highlights:

  • Evening Hosted by Jaylene Tyme: Artiste, performer and advocate Indigenous Two-Spirit Trans human, Treaty 4 Plains Cree, Saulteaux, Métis.
  • Marketplace filled with neighbourhood house vendors, artists and activities.
  • Dreaming Corner – a place for neighbours to have conversations about what is meaningful to them like climate action, Decolonization, health and wellness, and more.
  • Music, chair yoga and more on the Main Stage.

This special day-long celebration will spotlight the vital role of the Neighbourhood House Movement across BC. It’s an opportunity to build awareness, engage in meaningful dialogue, enjoy a marketplace, participate in co-creation sessions, and much more.

Clothing and Toys Swap

Family Outreach Services, in collaboration with the Settlement and Integration Programs, invites you to a Clothing and Toy Swap, a free exchange of clothing and toys.

BC Farmers’ Market Coupon Program

Application Deadline 3:30 pm on Friday, July 4, 2025
The applications for the program will be accepted till July 4, 2025 at 3:30PM. The selection of the coupon recipients will happen in the following weeks, and the meetings to award the coupons will happen regularly until September. 
 
1. Requirements to qualify for the program. Apply if you are:
  – A Burnaby resident and a member of BNH. 
  – A person with low income. 
  – Pregnant, Senior or a family with children under 19 years old. 
  – Committed to visit any of the farmers’ markets and use the coupons or return them to us. 
2. Submit your name and complete the pre-screening at any Burnaby Neighbourhood House Location. 
3. There’s a limited quantity of coupons awarded for this program.

Bridges Preschool Program 

Tuesdays   |  10:00 am – 12:00 pm | In-person at Brentwood House (2055 Rosser Ave.)
Bridges Preschool Program starts July 22, 2025 at our Brentwood location!
 
This free program is designed for newcomer families who are new to the Canadian school system. While children are cared for by childminders, parents can attend informative workshops led by community guest speakers, including the Public Library, School Coordinators, Fraser Health Dental, RCMP, and more!

Drop-In platform: First come, first serve |  Room Capacity Limit: 18 families  | No registration required 

We offer a number of Family Drop-in programs throughout the community for parents/caregivers with children 0-5 years. Family drop-ins provide a variety of opportunities for families to socialize, to have a safe and fun place to play and learn and to get parenting information. Feel free to join us at any days and locations outlined above.

Neighbourhood Outreach

Support is available to families with children 0-12 who need help accessing community information and can assist families to connect with local community programs and services. Outreach workers are available in North and South Burnaby. Please call (604) 431-0400 or see our brochure for more information.

 

Outreach Services for Families with Children 0-12 

  • Phone check ins
  • Grocery shopping and other essentials for families who are isolated and can’t get out but can afford to pay
  • Food security for low income families – delivery of donated food bags to families who are isolated. 
  • Support with connecting to any other needs that are identified.
  • Virtual programming, will include – groups; children’s activities; parenting resources – connections to partners who are doing programming. 
 
 

 

Family Access Interpretation Program

Trained Volunteers are now available to support families with children 0-6 who need help with interpretation. Program is funded by the United Way of the Lower Mainland.

  • Get help with appointments with teachers, etc.

  • Have an interpreter come with you to a children’s program.

  • Go to a community event with a volunteer interpreter.

Community Kitchen  

Community Kitchen is a weekly program offered at Burnaby Neighbourhood House -South and Gilmore Community School that involves cooking, eating, and lots of great conversation and laughter. Families or individuals who have limited income join together to prepare healthy meals to take home, and to have lunch together.  We always use everyone’s favourite family recipes and include many kid-friendly foods.  Free childminding is available.

Mother Goose Progam

Wednesdays  |  12:30 pm – 2:00 pm | In-person at BNH South House

The Mother Goose program teaches parents and their young children how to use rhymes, songs, and stories to bond and have fun together.

The Program supports parents and families raising young children by promoting positive parent-child relationships, increasing parent’s confidence and emotion regulation skills, and developing social support systems for parents.

This 8-week program will run on Wednesdays at BNH South House at 4460 Beresford Street, starting September 20, 2023.
