Programs

Burnaby Seniors’ Transportation is an affordable and convenient service providing one-way and return trips for Burnaby residents who need assisted transportation to their medical and dental appointments within Burnaby, Vancouver, New Westminster and the Tri-City area. If cost, mobility or balance are an issue, Burnaby Seniors’ Transportation is here to help.

The Burnaby Christmas Bureau provides Christmas cheer to people with low income and living in Burnaby through our Toy Room and Seniors Hamper Program. This continues to be challenging times for many people and we are anticipating great need again for families with children, and seniors with low income. There are several ways to participate.

The Burnaby Camping Bureau provides subsidies for Burnaby children from low income households to attend a week of summer day camp. Our subsidies of $100 (maximum) will allow children the opportunity to attend a local camp that their families would otherwise be unable to afford.

To qualify, you must be a resident of Burnaby, have children between the ages of 5-15 years, be of low income and have supporting documentation.

You will need the following documents at the time of your appointment:

How to support Seniors Hampers?

Purchase Gift Cards for the Seniors Holiday Hampers
This year we are moving away from one-on-one sponsorships to support the growing number of vulnerable seniors in Burnaby. We invite donors to purchase gift cards for seniors living in poverty.

Why gift cards? Last year, we heard from seniors that they are struggling to afford groceries and other necessities. We also heard about the importance of seniors being able to indicate their preferences for the type of hamper they would like to receive. See details and application form for details.

Testimonials

This is the first chance that our kids have had to ever go to camp. Without the Bureau we would not be able to send them.

Mario and Tracy - Parents of three children sponsored by the Burnaby Camping Bureau

I am a single mother with two children. Being a student also, I am on a limited income. I feel my children will benefit from camp by establishing friendships, learning new skills, and life long memories. I am grateful that my children are able to have this experience, which would not be possible without assistance. I feel people should support it as children should be able to experience, learn, and grow.

Cathy - Mother of one child sponsored by the Burnaby Camping Bureau

The best thing about the Christmas Bureau is feeling the support of the community and feeling like an equal and important member of the community; and being blessed by the generosity of others.

Teuta - a mother of two sponsored by the Burnaby Christmas Bureau

Giving to the Christmas Bureau was fantastic for us. Last year we held a bake sale which allowed us to be extra generous to the family we sponsored. After Christmas we received a phone call from the mom again thanking us. We received as much as we gave through the experience and it helps teach our girls the importance of community and giving back.

Ivan Svetic - coach at Burnaby Girls Soccer Club

For the past few years Ritchie Bros. has been a sponsor of several families involved with the Burnaby Community Services. We divided our 9 families into floors at our office and all the staff participate in buying gifts that are tagged on the trees. They all get very involved in this event because it makes them feel good about helping the families. We hand deliver the entire Christmas to them and then the staff wait for the email about each of the families they were supporting.
