Current Volunteer Opportunities
Family Place Drop‑In program:
- Who it’s for: Supports children ages 0–5 and welcomes volunteers who enjoy working with young kids.
- South House shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm; ongoing need.
- Brentwood shifts: Tuesday 12:00–3:00pm, Thursday 9:30am–12:30pm, Friday 9:00am–12:00pm; ongoing need.
- Volunteer requirements: Immunization record and two reference checks.
Community Adult Literacy Program (CALP)
This program supports people who have spoken fluent English, but would like to strengthen their Reading and Writing. 12 volunteers needed.
Time: Flexible and based on Mutual Availability Any day (Mondays to Sundays)
Sessions: 1 to 2 per week
Location: Online or In Person Sessions
Required Skills:
Higher English Level
Patient and supportive approach
Ability to work with individual facing multiple barriers

Social Media Ambassadors
(2 to 3 volunteers)
Support our day to day social media presence and help bring our stories to life
Assisting with content creation such as Facebook and Instagram
Capture Pictures and Videos During Events programs and events when needed
Draft Simple, Engaging Emails for a Boarder Audience
Graphic Designer (1 volunteer)
Supporting the creation of visually creating and consistent work that aligns with our meeting
Designing posters, social media graphics, and promotional materials for programs and events
Supporting updates to existing templates to ensure consistency across departments
Collaborating on visual concepts that reflect our values of inclusion, accessibility, and community
Adapting designs for different formats (prints, web, and social media)
Make revisions based on feedback to ensure clarity and accuracy
Requirements:
Tech Savvy, Comfortable working with the public, Leadership skills, Additional Language skills is an asset
Digital Café-All Locations
Volunteers needed who are tech savvy, patient and multi-lingual to support one on one or group interaction with adult/senior learners.
Time & Location:
Mondays from 10 am to 12pm at North House
Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm at Brentwood
Mondays from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at South
Thursday at 3:00pm to 5:00pm at South
Burnaby Neighbourhood House – Summer Programs 2026
Locations: Lochdale Community School
Program Dates: June 10 – August 7, 2026
Ages Served: Children 6–12
SUMMER CAMP – LOCHDALE
Dates: June 29 – August 7 Times: 9:00am–3:00pm (Monday–Friday) Volunteers Needed: 1–2
Responsibilities:
• Supervise and engage with children
• Support recreational activities
• Assist with setup
• Help during field trips
Skills Required:
• Experience working with children

Food Hub – South Hub
Tuesday 10:30-12:30/1pm
Sorting produce and prepared foods & bagging vegetables (same as the last call out for Wednesday volunteers at North)
Need 2-3 more consistent people
Wednesday 10-4 any time
Need a 1 consistent morning volunteer to help bag produce and sort food that will be distributed that day
Looking for 1-2 on call afternoon volunteers who can help out during distribution some time between 12-4
Food Hub – North Hub
Wednesday 8:30-10:30
Unloading truck/sorting produce same as the call out we got a few people that can come sporadically so 1 more to add to our list could be good
Wednesday 10:30-12:30
Sorting produce and prepared foods & bagging vegetables – most people who responded to the last call out can come every other week or only during the summer time

Greeting and checking in food hub participants as they enter. This is best for someone who is comfortable using the computer for virtual check in, but also it is easy to train if they are already tech-savvy ish.

Putting together grocery hampers to distribute to food hub participants
Cleaning fridges, helping put tables away, restock cold fridge items
- We are looking for individuals who enjoy working with Seniors (55+) who can lead social and recreational groups (in-person, on the phone, or over Zoom!), walks, or facilitate workshops. Times and days are flexible.
Meals On Wheels:
1) Depot Driver: We are looking for volunteer drivers to help pick up meals from our caterers in Richmond (Bridgeport Area) and in Chinatown (SUCCESS). We need drivers on Wednesday (pickup in Chinatown) and Friday (pickup in Richmond). Shifts will be from 8am – 10am.
2) Delivery Drivers: We are looking for volunteer drivers to help deliver meals from our Brentwood office to community members throughout Burnaby on a regular or casual/on call basis. Shifts will be on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays between 10:30am – 12:30pm.
- Senior’s Transportation – Are you interested in helping seniors and driving them to the appointment destinations? Burnaby Community Services is looking for responsible car owners who are willing to pick up senior clients at their residences and drive them to the dental and medical appointments throughout Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Vancouver. The driver may also help guide the client into the office and, if it is a round trip, wait for the client to drive them home. Note: this is a long-term role (at least 1 year) with mileage reimbursement.
If you are a youth in grade 8-12 (or 14-18 years old) you have 4 different options for volunteering:
1. Special events
- Giftwrappers: We are looking for gift wrappers for our annual Gift Wrap fundraiser at Metrotown and Lougheed Mall from December 2 – 24. The Christmas Gift wrappers will be responsible for wrapping gifts. Time commitment: 3/4 shifts during December.
- Christmas Bureau Toy Room Assistant: During November and December we are looking for some extra volunteers who can occasionally be called upon to help stock, clean, sort, and assist with greeting. You will need to be available between November 1 – December 21 and will be called occasionally to assist with various tasks.
2. BNH Programs
- Youth Mentors: We are looking for youth volunteers to mentor young teenagers (ages 12-15) in our new Youth Adventure program. Mentors will help foster supportive social relationships through a variety of activities, helping teens make meaningful connections, develop life skills, and engage in outdoor experiences in and around the community. We ask mentors to commit to weekly gatherings and monthly family dinners. Locations: Forest Grove elementary school, Cedar Place, and South House)
- Food Bank: Do you have concerns about food security or want to help those in need with accessing free or affordable food? We are looking for individuals who can help sort, bag, and organize food for isolated individuals and/or seniors living in Burnaby. Location: South hall (5024 Rumble Street)
- School Aged Childcare/Afterschool Programs or Daycamps: assist weekly at one of our childcare or Afterschool programs doing recreational activities and programs with children aged 5-12 years old.
3. Community Projects (Fall 2023) – Be part of a Youth Committee to decide what community projects you would like to plan for each month (e.g. – food/hygiene drives, community cleans up, fundraisers, etc.)

This is so we get to know a bit more about you, your interests and skills, and help you find the right volunteer opportunity match.
After your volunteer interview, you will be sent either a link or a letter to obtain a free criminal record check.
We will contact your non-family reference (friend, neighbour, classmate, or colleague) listed in your application. If possible, please provide their email as it helps expedite the process.
