Mentoring with Math at North House

School-aged children starts to fear their math homework and dislike the subject when schools starts in September. A continued Back to School program in partnership with Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and Simon Fraser University called “Mentoring with Math” is proven to be the popular program.

Children in grades 3 – 7 are able to attend the Mentoring with Math sessions each week for 90 minutes. Together tutors and the children ran through math exercises, figured out some problem areas and, importantly, had fun doing it. The program is not only about helping with numbers, but also the social and emotional development of children.

For the first part of the session, they will use a variety of techniques based on the principles of the JUMP Math numeracy program to encourage an understanding and love of math. The second part of each weekly session will encourage students in the program to interact with one another through a number of games and activities. This program is designed for children struggling with math concepts at or below their grade level.

The program is scheduled for Wednesdays from October 23 – December 11, 2019 from 4 – 5:30 pm at Burnaby Neighbourhood House North location (4908 Hastings Street).
